At first I was not sure what I could use for temporary drawings, but once I got going I found I was ‘temporary drawing’ everywhere! It’s funny how you to start to look for things you can use as drawing media and even when you’re not looking you find you start drawing with something!
1- Washing up liquid.
Using the liquid to draw a flower pattern around the (rather tea stained!) plug hole. Then attemptng to draw into the foam bubbles…this proved harder as my shapes kept moving and floating into each other. It was quite therapeutic though, watching the bubbles want to attract and join together to form their own new patterns. I’ve titled the final image “The Goddess”

2 – Leaves
I was in the garden sweeping up leaves and saw patterns emerging. I then started to more carefully sweep the leaves into patterns. These were very temporary, as the wind kept blowing and I had to be quick to take a photo before the pattern blew away! Again, the use of the broom and the sweeping movements was quiet therapeutic…I may think of this next time I have the boring task of sweeping up the leaves!

3 – Suntan Lotion
What better way to explore drawing than to sit in the sun and doodle with your suntan lotion, on your leg, with a stick! This was entirely unintentional, and a great example of finding a way to create a temporary drawing when you are not looking for it.

4 – Weeds
Pulling up the weeds and chucking them on the floor seemed a waste of a drawing exercise…so I created shapes and patterns from the differnt lengths of weeds and added shells and stones.

5 – Shadows
As I looked around the garden I saw temparary drawings created by the shadows of my clothes horse and of myself up against a brick wall.

Reflection
This was an enjoyable exercise and it really did make me think about what constitutes ‘drawing’ and that, if we open our eyes, there are drawings made up of patterns and shapes all around us, and how anything can be used as drawing media if we are willing to explore.
